Today we are sharing and advanced feature to let you schedule Windows 10 OS and system updates or, alternatively, just be notified without installation. The trick relies on the old Local Group. I have a mixture of Windows 7 and 10 and use WSUS. I ran into the same problem, as the update process has changed since Windows 8. I created a Windows Update GPO for Windows 10 machines only, using a WMI filter. I have updates (if available) scheduled to install every day at noon, with no restart in Active hours.

Microsoft recently releases New cumulative update KB4512508 for Windows 10 version 1903. This is security update fixes problems with Windows Hello face recognition, display colors, and brightness, Bluetooth audio quality, Microsoft Edge, Window-Eyes screen reader and more. Disable Any security software or antivirus protection (if installed), search for updates, install the available updates and then turn on your antivirus protection.

Clean booting your computer may also help. If any third party software causing confliction to download & install windows updates. Here's how to do this:

  1. Go to the search box > type MSConfig.
  2. Select System Configuration > go to Services tab.
  3. Select Hide all Microsoft services > Disable all.

Go to Startup tab > Open Task Manager > Disable all the unnecessary services running there. Restart your computer and check for updates,

Clear Buggy update files

If disable Security application & perform clean boot didn't fix the problem still windows update failed to install or stuck downloading. Then lets fallow steps below to clear the buggy updates files which may be causing the issue.

  • First of all, we need to stop the windows update service,
  • To do this open command prompt as administrator,
  • execute command net stop net stop wuauserv to stop windows update service.
  • Then type net stop bits to stop background intelligent transfer service.

Then Go to the following location. C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload

  • Delete everything in the folder, but do not delete the folder itself.
  • To do so, press CTRL + A to select everything and then press Delete to remove the files.
  • Again use net start wuauserv and net start bits to restart the services which you previously stopped.

Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

  • Press Windows + I to open Windows 10 settings app
  • Click on Update & troubleshooting then Troubleshoot

  • Type DISM restore health command : DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • After complete the process fun command sfc /scannow
  • Let system file checker utility to detect and restore missing system files.
  • And restart windows after 100% complete the scanning process.
  • And after that again check for windows update, hope there is no more errors.

Install Windows Update manually

If all the above solutions fail to fix the problem, still windows update stuck downloading or fails to install then let's install windows updates manually. Visit the Windows 10 update history webpage where you can notice the logs of all the previous Windows updates that have been released.

For the most recently released update, note down the KB number.

Now use Windows Update Catalog Website to search for the update specified by the KB number you noted down. Download the update depending on if your machine is 32-bit = x86 or 64-bit=x64.

The December 2018 cumulative updates are now available for supported versions of Windows 10. Today's update for Windows 10 has addressed the security and non-security issues.

To grab the new updates, open Settings via Start menu or Cortana and navigate to Update & Security -> Windows Update and select Check for updates. If you own multiple PCs or if you would like to patch the PCs manually, you can download and install this update from here.

This update has fixed only one issue associated with Windows Media Player. According to the changelog, this update has fixed an issue where the Seek Bar in Windows Media Player does not work when playing specific files.

The update also includes the general security updates and you can find the full changelog below:

  • Addresses an issue that may prevent the use of the Seek Bar in Windows Media Player when playing specific files. This issue does not affect normal playback.
  • Security updates to Windows Authentication, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Internet Explorer, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Wireless Networking, Windows Kernel, Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Scripting Engine.

At the moment, Microsoft is not aware of any known issues in Windows 10 October 2018 Update's latest patch but the new issues if discovered could be acknowledged a bit later.

Windows 10 Aprill 2018 Update patch also brings fix for the Windows Media Player issue and the update also addresses issues with the Start Menu. You can find the changelog below:
